A careful next step for peanut allergy

A consultation can clarify whether peanut OIT is worth exploring and whether it fits your situation. It does not commit you to treatment.

Peanut OIT is a long-term, specialist-guided approach that uses carefully measured peanut exposure over time for selected patients. It is not a cure, and it does not mean everyone will have the same result. The Food Allergy Clinic’s role is to explain the possible path plainly, answer questions honestly, and help families make a decision with more clarity and more control.

How peanut OIT works at The Food Allergy Clinic

The Paris OIT Program uses in-office escalation and a prescribed daily home dose under close clinical guidance. Every planned dose increase happens at the clinic; there is never home escalation.

The current protocol begins with a 4–6 hour Day 1 escalation visit, with increasing doses at approximately 15-minute intervals under direct observation. Patients then return for approximately weekly up-dose visits lasting about 45 minutes, with at least seven days between planned increases. Many patients reach full servings at about 4–6 months, followed by daily maintenance that may continue for about 3–5 years. These are clinical planning estimates—not promises—and require verification with the clinic before publication.

Who may want to ask about peanut OIT

People with a confirmed peanut allergy who are ready for daily dosing and regular in-office visits may want to discuss OIT. Candidacy remains individualized.

A history of anaphylaxis does not automatically exclude someone from asking about peanut OIT. Dr. Jason C. Paris, MD considers the full allergy history, asthma and other health conditions, medications, daily routine, ability to follow safety instructions, and treatment goals. Some patients may discuss a lower maintenance-dose goal focused on bite-protection rather than a higher level of dietary flexibility.

Why in-person local care matters

Peanut OIT asks for ongoing participation, which is why local access and continuity of care matter. The Food Allergy Clinic gives Southeast Michigan families a program they can reach in Livonia or Brighton.

Dr. Paris personally supervises every up-dose. The Food Allergy Clinic is also part of Paris Asthma & Allergy Centers, serving Southeast Michigan since 1966. Your peanut allergy plan can remain connected to the same practice that supports your broader allergy care.
